A Birthday Filled With Love, Family and Strawberry Cake

There really is nothing better than quality family time.
This year, my birthday became one of those days I know I’ll carry with me for a long time. Not because of presents or big plans, but because of the love and effort my family poured into making me feel special.
I thought I was simply heading out for lunch with Mike and Ethan at The Cow, one of my favourite local restaurants. I already knew exactly what I was going to order too: their sirloin steak. If you’ve ever had a steak that melts in your mouth, you’ll understand why I never choose anything else there.
But when I walked in, I found my entire family waiting to surprise me. I was completely shocked.
They had even decorated with beautiful number 40 balloons, each one with a little guinea pig sticker on it. It was such a thoughtful, personal touch and it instantly made me smile. Very me, very squeaky, and very loved.
We all sat together enjoying amazing food, lots of laughter, and one of those long, easy catch-ups that make time slow down for a little while. Life gets busy and you forget how important it is to simply sit around a table together.
After lunch, we headed back to my parents’ house. My dad couldn’t join us at the restaurant because he is a stroke survivor and is currently battling stage 4 cancer, so spending the rest of the afternoon with him at home meant a lot.
Just when I thought the surprises were over, my mum appeared with the most beautiful homemade strawberry cake. It was perfect in every way, made with so much love. The kind of thing only a mum can do so beautifully.
The whole day reminded me that the best birthdays aren’t always about extravagant plans. Sometimes they are about family, shared meals, homemade cake, warm conversations, and making memories together while you can.
Turning 40 surrounded by the people I love most felt incredibly special.
