Week 3 of January

Some guinea pigs nibble first and ask questions later. Pip asks questions first then climbs inside the thing she’s nibbling. She’s a rosette explorer through and through, and this week, she’s here to show how enrichment can spark joy, build trust, and keep curious minds busy.

🧠 What Is Enrichment, Really?

Enrichment means giving your piggies opportunities to explore, play, and think. It’s not about fancy toys it’s about variety, stimulation, and emotional connection.

For rosettes like Pip, who thrive on novelty and interaction, enrichment helps:

• Prevent boredom and stress

• encourage natural behaviours like foraging and tunnelling

• Build confidence and curiosity

• Strengthen your bond through shared experiences

🏠 Cozy Hideouts & Tunnels

Rosettes love options. Pip prefers at least three hideouts, two tunnels, and one fleece pile she can rearrange at will.

try rotating:

• Fleece tunnels with heart motifs (Pip-approved)

• Cardboard boxes with multiple exits

• Soft snuggle sacks in pastel tones

• hideouts with peek-through windows for nosey pigs

Change the layout weekly to keep things fresh.

🍂 Seasonal Foraging

Winter enrichment can be gentle and warm. Pip recommends:

- Scatter feeding in hay piles

- Hiding veggies in fleece folds

- Using safe herbs like dried dandelion or marigold petals for scent-based exploration

- Creating “sniff zones” with clean, textured fabrics

Always supervise and keep things dry and cozy.

🎵 Emotional Enrichment

Rosettes are expressive. Pip responds to tone, rhythm, and routine. Emotional enrichment includes:

• Talking softly during cage cleaning

•Playing gentle music during floor time

• Offering choice two tunnels, two treats, two cuddle spots

• Letting them lead interactions (Pip likes to initiate nose boops)

It’s not just about stimulation it’s about trust.

🐹 Pip’s Perspective

Pip believes enrichment is a lifestyle. She’s not just curious she’s intentional. Her favourite activities include:

• Rearranging her fleece tunnel

•Investigating new textures

•Sitting inside things she’s not supposed to

• Staring at you until you offer a snack

She reminds us that every piggy has their own way of engaging. The trick is to listen.

💗 Enrichment as Connection

The best enrichment is shared. It’s the moment your pig pauses mid-sniff to look at you. The way they learn your voice. The way Pip leans into your hand when she’s done exploring.

Rosettes may be spirited, but they’re also deeply relational. Enrichment isn’t just about keeping them busy it’s about helping them feel seen.
