Ingredients
- 1 cup Timothy hay powder
- ½ cup oat flour
- ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
- ¼ cup shredded carrot or apple (optional)
- Splash of water if needed
Instructions
1. Prepare the dough
- Blend hay into powder, mix with oat flour.
- Add applesauce and shredded carrot/apple.
- Knead until it forms a firm dough.
2. Shape the treats
- Roll into small balls or press into bite‑sized cookies, i used a small carrot shaped cutter for added cuteness.
- Keep them thin — about ½ inch or less — so they dry evenly.
3. Dehydrate
- Place treats on dehydrator trays lined with parchment.
- Set temperature to 135–150°F (57–65°C).
- Dry for 6–8 hours, or until completely hard and crisp.
- Flip halfway if your dehydrator doesn’t circulate air evenly.
4. Cool & Store
- Let cool fully before serving.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
- For longer storage, freeze and thaw as needed.
🐹 Serving Notes
- Offer 1–2 treats per day as enrichment.
- Always pair with unlimited hay, fresh water, and daily veggies.
- Dehydrator treats tend to be crunchier, which piggies and bunnies love for dental wear.
✨ Using a dehydrator is actually a great option because it preserves more nutrients than oven baking and avoids the risk of over‑browning.
