Week 2 of January

Rosettes have a way of announcing themselves before they even squeak. Those little whirlwinds of fur seem to have their own opinions, their own weather systems, and their own sense of drama. And if you share your home with a rosette, you already know: grooming isn’t just upkeep it’s a conversation.

This week, Pip steps into the spotlight to show how gentle, regular grooming can keep those swirls soft, healthy, and full of personality.

🌸 Why Rosettes Need a Little Extra Care

Rosette coats grow in multiple directions at once, which makes them charming… and occasionally chaotic. Their swirls can trap tiny bits of hay, dust, or bedding, and the hair around each rosette can lift or separate if not brushed regularly.

A little routine goes a long way. Grooming helps:

• Keep the coat clean and comfortable

• Prevent small tangles from becoming stubborn knots

•Reduce shedding

• Strengthen your bond through calm, hands-on time

Pip insists it also helps them look “presentable,” though she’s never once defined what that means.

🪮 Soft-Bristle Brushing: The Rosette-Friendly Method

A soft-bristle brush is your best friend here. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin but effective enough to smooth the coat around each swirl.

How to brush a rosette:

• Start with slow, light strokes in the direction the hair naturally falls

• Work around each rosette rather than against it

• Keep sessions short and sweet 2–3 minutes is plenty

• Offer a tiny treat at the end to build positive associations

Pip likes to supervise the brush first, just to make sure it understands its responsibilities 😂.

🌼 Tackling Tiny Tangles (Kindly)

Rosettes don’t mat easily, but they can develop little snags where two swirls meet. If you find one:

• Hold the hair gently at the base to avoid tugging the skin

• se a soft comb or your fingers to ease it apart

• Never pull or cut slow and steady always wins

If your pig is wriggly, take a break. Grooming should feel safe, not stressful.

❄️ Seasonal Coat Care

Winter can make coats fluffier and drier. A weekly brush helps distribute natural oils and keeps the coat soft.

If your pig spends more time snuggled in fleece tunnels (Pip votes yes), check for static and gently smooth it out with your hands.

🐹 Pip’s Grooming Wisdom

Pip approaches grooming like she approaches life: with curiosity, mild suspicion, and a surprising amount of enthusiasm once snacks appear.

Her top tips:

• “If you brush me while I’m eating, I won’t notice.”

• “If you brush me after I’ve eaten, I will absolutely notice.”

• “Rosettes are supposed to be dramatic. Don’t fight it.”

💗 Grooming as Bonding

The real magic of grooming isn’t the tidy coat it’s the quiet moments. The soft strokes. The trust. The way your pig leans into your hand when they realise this is just another way you care for them.

Rosettes may be spirited, but they’re also deeply affectionate when given time and patience. Pip proves it every week.
