There are so many lovely places to visit on the Isle of Wight, but Tapnell Farm has a special kind of magic. Every time we go, it feels like a blend of fun, learning, and genuine care for the animals and for us, the guinea pigs always steal the show.
🌿 A Place That Feels Instantly Welcoming
Tapnell Farm Park is one of those rare spots that works beautifully in any weather. Surrounded by rolling countryside and big open skies, it’s packed with things for families to enjoy soft play, pedal go‑karts, wallaby walkabouts, giant jumping pillows, and more.
Our son’s absolute favourite is the bouncy pillows and the soft play. Those two areas are where he lights up the most, and they’ve become part of our routine every time we visit. As an autistic child, he finds Tapnell to be one of the few busy places he can cope with most of the time the layout, the atmosphere, and the gentle flow of the day all work in his favour. It’s a place where he can be himself, explore at his own pace, and still feel comfortable.
And throughout the year, Tapnell holds special events that add even more excitement seasonal activities, themed days, and family‑friendly extras that make each visit feel a little different.
But no matter how much there is to explore, we always find ourselves drifting back to the Animal Barn.
🐹 The Guinea Pigs: The Heart of Every Visit
The guinea pigs at Tapnell aren’t just part of the farm they’re a whole experience. Their small‑animal sessions are calm, gentle, and thoughtfully run, giving children and adults the chance to sit with the guinea pigs and rabbits in a way that feels respectful and soothing.
Tapnell Trims is one of our favourite parts of the day. Visitors can brush, stroke, or simply sit quietly with the animals while chatting to the keepers about health, grooming, and everyday care. It’s cosy, educational, and perfect for little hands learning how to be gentle.
During school holidays, they sometimes run Guinea Pig Fishing a playful enrichment activity where children use treat “fishing rods” to feed the guinea pigs. It’s light‑hearted, fun, and still completely animal‑friendly, which is exactly the balance we love to see.
💗 Why It Means So Much to Us:
As a family who adores guinea pigs and spends a lot of time creating educational content about them Tapnell Farm feels like a place that truly understands these little animals. The keepers are kind, knowledgeable, and always happy to answer questions. Their sessions are timed to avoid overwhelming the animals, and enrichment is woven into their daily routine.
It’s the kind of environment we want children to learn from: gentle, patient, and rooted in respect.
For us, it’s never just a day out. It’s a chance to slow down, connect, and enjoy the simple joy of being around animals who are clearly well cared for.
🌟 And There’s So Much More
Tapnell Farm has plenty of other activities too wallaby feeding, alpaca sessions, Shetland grooming, and even pig agility in the summer months. But no matter how many things we try, we always circle back to the guinea pigs, smiling like it’s our first visit all over again.
🐾 A Place We’ll Always Return To
Tapnell Farm blends fun with compassion in a way that keeps us coming back. It’s a place where children can learn how to treat animals kindly, where families can enjoy meaningful moments together, and where guinea pigs are celebrated just as much as the bigger animals.
Every visit reminds us why we love these little squeakers and why Tapnell Farm will always be one of our favourite places on the island.
